Smooth Sailing to Korčula: A Seamless Journey to Korčula
Planning a trip to Korčula requires good organization to avoid stress and make the most of your vacation time. One key tip is to add at least 2-3 extra hours to your schedule to ensure you arrive on time and secure a spot on the ferry to Korčula. During the summer months, especially in July and August, crowds are large, and waiting in the port can be exhausting. Keep in mind that even if you've purchased tickets online, this does not guarantee a spot on the ferry—you still need to be in line as close to the ferry as possible.
The most common route to Korčula is via the Pelješac Peninsula, where you board the ferry from Orebić to Korčula (Dominče). You can reach Orebić by taking the ferry from Ploče to Trpanj, followed by a short drive, or by driving through Ston on the mainland. The ferry on this route operates every hour, with a journey time of just 15 minutes.
An alternative option is the route over the Pelješac Bridge, which opened in 2022 and allows access to Pelješac without crossing the Neum border. This route is more convenient as it eliminates the need for border crossings, but be aware that the port of Orebić, located in the town center, can be crowded during peak season.
Traveling outside the peak season, such as in June or September, is generally more relaxed with fewer crowds, but during the summer months, every extra hour of planning can save you time and stress. Whether you’re taking the ferry from Orebić or using the Pelješac Bridge, timely planning and early arrival will ensure a smooth and carefree start to your vacation on Korčula.
